Un siglo después de la publicación de Yo y tú (1923), obra que recoge el núcleo de la original propuesta onto-epistémica y antropológica del pensador judío Martin Buber, esta investigación vuelve a ella con el cometido de actualizar algunos de los rasgos definitorios de la concepción personalista del autor. Concretamente, este trabajo emplea una metodología cualitativa que desciende al estudio directo de diferentes fragmentos del texto de referencia, así como al de otros escritos filosóficos del autor y al de sus (...) principales comentaristas, con el objetivo de traducir el mensaje antropológico-dialógico de Buber al ejercicio del análisis filosófico-fílmico en clave personalista. A tal fin, nos serviremos de la labor iniciática de Sanmartín, Peris-Cancio, Marco Perles o Frígols Garrido en el ámbito del Hollywood clásico, para elevar una lectura de la película Mandarinas (2013), del cineasta europeo Zaza Urushadze; lo cual nos permitirá alumbrar algunas conclusiones provisionales en relación con la antropología fílmica de Buber, así como sugerir investigaciones prospectivas. There has been little investigation of male adolescent violence against women as acknowledged by boys themselves, and even less on such violence in different contexts with comparative studies of behavior between those who perpetrate this violence and the population at large. This study used cluster analysis to establish a male adolescent typology based on boys’ self-reporting of violence against women in three contexts. The participants were 3,132 Spanish teenage boys aged 14–18 with experience of relationships with girls. Three discrete, identifiable (...) types were obtained: the first group, of non-violent boys; the second group, more involved in sexual harassment online outside a relationship but with a low incidence of dating violence offline; the third group, with abuse in the three contexts but less involved in sexual harassment online than the second group. The logistic regression analysis showed that justification of male dominance and violence was the main risk condition for inclusion in the second and third groups, followed by low self-esteem and risky sexual behaviors online. The findings based on these results are important for preventing male adolescent dating violence against women in the three male types detected. (shrink)

This paper is concerned with the role of self-observation in managing complexity in meaning systems. Revising Niklas Luhmann's theory of mass media, we approach the mass media system as a social sub-system functionally specialized in the coupling of psychic systems' self-observation and social systems' self-observation.According to Autopoietic Systems Theory and von Foerster's second order cybernetics, self-observation presupposes a capability for meta-observation that demands a specific distinction between observer and actor. This distinction seems especially relevant in those social contexts where a (...) separation between the action of observation and other social actions is required. However, in those social contexts where the defining action is precisely observation, the border between observer and actor is blurred.We shall consider the significant divergence between the implicit and the explicit epistemologies of the mass media system, which appears to be characterized by the explicit assumption of a classic objectivist epistemology, on one side, and a relativist epistemology on the other, posing a hybrid epistemic status somewhere in between science and arts. El propósito de la investigación que hemos realizado es poner de relieve la figura de Cecilia G. de Guilarte, escritora y periodista. Comenzó siendo una militante anarquista de la CNT y única mujer corresponsal de guerra en el Frente Norte republicano durante la Guerra Civil española, defendiendo sus ideas políticas y trabajando, también, como articulista en revistas de Cataluña. Con la pérdida de la guerra y su salida de España, su evolución ideológica y cambio político hacia ideas republicanas quedó reflejado (...) en el carácter de su producción literaria durante los años de exilio en México. Fue destacada su labor profesional como corresponsal en un ambiente propio de los hombres durante unos años difíciles y mantuvo su actividad creativa durante toda su vida, representando una nueva imagen de mujer luchadora y defen-sora de unos ideales avanzados para la época. Como consecuencia de los cambios producidos en su trayectoria vital y profesional, la escritora logrará apartarse de un estilo con tintes políticos y emergerá la figura de una autora literaria plena. This article investigates the presence of Amazonian imagery in Statius' Achilleid. It begins by uncovering intertexts to Aeneid 1 in the arrival of Ulysses and Diomedes on Scyros ( Ach. 1.726–58), which create a layer of erotic tension that is vital for the interpretation of the ensuing simile comparing Achilles, Deidamia, and Lycomedes' daughters with Amazons ( Ach. 1.758–60). A comprehensive analysis of the simile allows a re-examination of Statius' echoes to the portrayals of Hippolyte and Theseus in Thebaid 12, (...) and draws attention to previously unnoticed parallels with Virgil's Aeneid. The final section of the article examines the broader context of the Amazon simile, eliciting intertextual points of contact with Ovid's Metamorphoses 7 and Valerius Flaccus' Argonautica 5, emphasising in particular the importance of the underlying recruitment theme. Statius' deployment of Amazonian imagery in the Achilleid is seen to be intrinsically tied to the poem's gender fluidity, and the poet's innovative narrative technique. (shrink)

La pretensión principal de este artículo estriba en establecer una conexión entre los acontecimientos sucedidos en la sociedad neoyorquina escenificada en Taxi Driver, la concepción hegeliana de héroe histórico y la noción lacaniana de gran Otro. Ante todo, se intentará resolver la que es, desde el criterio mantenido en este ensayo, la primordial paradoja que aparece en la película de Martín Scorsese: ¿Por qué Travis Bickle no recibe ningún tipo de castigo legal por parte de las instituciones de New York (...) tras asesinar sádicamente a tres chulos de un burdel y, en consecuencia, el homicidio se convierte de repente en una hazaña inmune a la imputación? Para ello, defenderemos que el protagonista de Taxi Driver asume la figura hegeliana del héroe histórico y, por consiguiente, adquiere la capacidad para modificar las directrices simbólicas contenidas en el gran Otro que se encuentra imbricado en la ciudadanía neoyorquina. Por último, a través de la peculiaridad del caso específico de Travis Bickle, se procurará poner a prueba la consistencia interna de la fórmula implícita en la "negación de la negación" hegeliana en relación con la sustancia social. Most philosophers recognize that sometimes particular individuals have to be grateful to others who have benefited them in a way that provides reasons for treating them in a differential way. In the same way, I argue, there are cases in which society as such benefits from the actions of a person, which gives rise to collective duties of gratitude that must be expressed at the political and socio-economical levels. The political concern about merit should not merely instrumental, but also moral: (...) a society cannot be just if it disregards its collective duties of gratitude. I criticize Rawls’ famous Natural Lottery argument showing that it relies on a problematic understanding of the notion of moral responsibility and develop some consideration on the role that gratitude should play when designing both public institutions and policies. Resumen La repercusión que el mito de Antígona ha tenido en la teoría feminista es comparable a la que ha tenido en la historia de la cultura y del pensamiento occidental. Pero, ¿cómo llega la figura de Antígona, una ficción indudablemente masculina, a convertirse en insignia feminista?, ¿podría perder sus reflejos de masculinidad y entrar a formar parte de una genealogía femenina? Atadas, como estamos, a una representación y lenguaje masculinos, se impone la necesidad de sacarla del mundo y lógica (...) edípicos para leerla bajo una perspectiva más cercana a la figura central, aunque invisible, de Yocasta.The impact that the myth of Antigone has had on feminist theory is comparable to the one it has had on the history of Western culture and thought. But how does the figure of Antigone, an undoubtedly masculine fiction, become a feminist badge? Could it lose its reflections of masculinity and become part of a female genealogy? Tied as we are to a masculine representation and language it becomes necessary to take it out of the Oedipal world and logic, to read it in keys that bring it closer to the central yet invisible figure of Yocasta. A lo largo del siglo XIX mexicano, la definición de las relaciones entre la Iglesia y el Estado estuvo siempre en la mesa de la discusión pública. Desde la independencia y hasta el movimiento de Reforma, se trató de delimitar el papel que la institución eclesiástica debía ocupar en la nueva nación. Así, a mediados de siglo se reconfiguró en respuesta la secularización que se produjo en México y en gran parte del mundo occidental.

In lines 904-15 Antigone states that she acted against the citizens on behalf of her brother, but would not do so in the case of a husband or child. I suggest that what separates Polyneices’s case from the hypothetical one of a husband or child is the fact that Polyneices is the last brother of a family on the verge of extinction. This situation demands a special consideration that is absent in the alternative scenario Antigone imagines. I show that Antigone (...) is here formulating what she thinks is a socially validated norm that legitimizes her disobedience. (shrink)

Hernán Cortés, the conquistador of Mexico, conquered Mesoamerican territories between 1519 and 1525. Over the course of those years he maintained an intense epistolary exchange with the Emperor Charles V, to whom he wrote his Cartas de relación and many other letters and memories. In return, the emperor rewarded Cortés with vassals, titles and honors. However, as time passed, when Cortés established his home in the New Spain, the epistolary exchange, which was so fruitful at the beginning, in the end (...) became a nuisance for Charles V because of the constant complaints of the conquistador. As a consequence, between 1530 and 1547, after the glorious years, the relationship between Cortés and the monarch became estranged and complicated. This paper analyzes some of the letters Cortés sent to the emperor, and reflects on the importance of his figure in 16th century Spain, as well as the relevance of a relationship, that of the emperor and the conquistador, that changed the face of the known world. Hernán Cortés, el conquistador de México, llevó a cabo sus conquistas entre 1519 y 1525. En esos años mantuvo una intensa relación epistolar con el emperador Carlos V, a quien dirigió sus Cartas de relación y muchas otras cartas y memoriales. A su vez, el emperador premió a Cortés con vasallos, títulos y honores. Sin embargo, al pasar de los años, cuando Cortés se estableció en la Nueva España, esa relación epistolar, que al principio fue muy fructífera, al final se (...) convirtió en una molestia por las continuas quejas y reclamos del conquistador. Así, entre 1530 y 1547, después de los años de gloria, la relación entre Cortés y el monarca se tornó lejana y complicada. En este trabajo se analizan algunas de las cartas que Hernán Cortés envió al emperador y se hace una reflexión sobre la importancia de su figura en la España del siglo XVI, así como la relevancia de una relación, la del emperador y el conquistador, que cambió la faz del mundo entonces conocido. ABSTRACTThis article draws attention to the presence of a previously unnoticed transliterated telestich in the transformation of stones into bodies in the episode of Deucalion and Pyrrha in Ovid's Metamorphoses. Detection of the Greek intext, which befits the episode's amplified bilingual atmosphere, is encouraged by a number of textual cues. The article also suggests a ludic connection to Aratus’ Phaenomena.

This paper contains a survey of the main definitions and results obtained to date related to Temporal Equilibrium Logic, a nonmonotonic hybrid approach that combines Equilibrium Logic (the best-known logical characterisation for the stable models semantics of logic programs) with Linear-Time Temporal Logic.

In this paper, we study the introduction of modal past temporal operators in Temporal Equilibrium Logic, an hybrid formalism that mixes linear-time modalities and logic programs interpreted under stable models and their characterisation in terms of Equilibrium Logic. We show that Kamp’s translation can also be used to translate the new extension of TEL with past operators into Quantified Equilibrium Logic. Additionally, we provide a method for removing past operators that consists in replacing past-time subformulas by fresh auxiliary atoms, obtaining (...) an equivalent formula, modulo the original alphabet. Si bien en las últimas décadas se ha hecho énfasis en las ciencias sociales como disciplinas interpretativas, no por hecho han dejado de realizarse ?y en algunos casos consolidarse? las investigaciones de corte cuantitativo, en este sentido consideramos de primera importancia recuperar la discusión..

En este trabajo pretendemos dar cuenta de la posición que destacados intelectuales hispanos de mediados/finales del siglo XVIII y de principios del XIX sostuvieron respecto de la denominada “sociedad comercial”, a partir de lo que se entendía como su motor esencial: el “amor propio” o “interés “. Una sociedad comercial y una ciencia que le era propia, la “economía política” que contenía una amplia consideración moral, que nos interesa especialmente. Y, precisamente de resultas de la compatibilización que dichos intelectuales desarrollaron (...) de este principio compartido y esencial de las diversas ilustraciones con la confesionalidad católica propia de la Monarquía hispánica, primero, y de la Nación Católica, después, creemos posible hablar de la existencia en el conjunto del Atlántico hispano de una Ilustración católica que tendría un papel destacado en tanto que Ilustración pero también como presupuesto explicativo del peculiar constitucionalismo hispano. Beyond different starting points, stakeholder theory and Catholic Social Thought share many compatible perspectives when analyzing the role of the firm in economic activity, especially regarding the attention of the firm to different social and economic actors. Additionally, ST bears limitations regarding its ethical and anthropological foundation, and also about the legitimation of the different stakeholders’ interests. Therefore, ST lacks clear criteria to solve possible conflicts of interest between stakeholders. This paper analyzes the potentiality of ST, widely accepted in corporate (...) management, to integrate CST principles in order to solve those conflicts. At the same time, the paper studies the possibility of finding in the principles of CST an anthropological and ethical foundation for ST. This foundation could be the source of criteria to discuss the levels of legitimation and prioritization between stakeholders´ interests, especially when those interests collide. (shrink)

La muerte resulta problemática para la contemporaneidad. El existencialismo es una corriente filosófica que presenta la facticidad de la mortalidad como propia de la vida. El pensador Albert Camus articula los pilares fundamentales de su filosofía en torno a la experiencia de la muerte, que lleva al absurdo, del que debe partir la acción rebelde. En esta investigación se analizan algunas dinámicas que, pretendiendo huir de la muerte, solo han conseguido hacernos débiles frente a ella. Presentaremos a Sísifo y Rieux, (...) dos de los personajes de sus escritos, como aquellos paradigmas de conducta que pueden contribuir a hacernos más conscientes del absurdo y poder, de este modo, vivir, amar y luchar.
